Lives Shattered
I wrote this poem shortly after Rhys was killed, my mind was going a thousand miles a minute and I just needed to get my thoughts on paper.
Lives shattered
Fragments scattered
Dreams like vapor
Float away
Hope eternal
Staggers blindly
Seeking reasons to go on
The soldier strong
The soldier proud
In an instant
He is gone
Mission completed
Standing down
Broken glory now called home
Life crumbles
Sadness profound
In a blink
We stagger to stand
Questions, more questions
How can it be
Why young ones, Why not me
Looking up
Seeking His face
Remember the promise
Glory and grace
Call His name
Reach deep in faith
Resting, believing, knowing he’s safe
Broken bones
Not the living
Dirt yields no man
He walks worthy
Now among angels
Servant’s work done
Safe until meeting together again

I’m speechless. That is very heart touching.

Rhys was so beautiful. I can’t read everything as it is so close to my own heart. Very touching. I need to add things to Spencer’s memorial pages like you have done for Rhys.I will pass this along as I know Patriot Guard Riders will appreciate it. Job well done for a son who did his job for our freedom. Love you both and thank you for sharing your son’s life with me. I bet he knows Spencer in Heaven. They are watching out for us all.
